Last weekend, two Preparatory Meetings took place in Ommen at Olde Vechte Foundation, gathering youth workers from across Europe. The first, part of the JOIN Seminar, focused on exploring inclusion challenges and solutions within NGOs, aligning with the EU Youth Strategy. Participants shared experiences and co-created ideas to improve inclusive practices at both organizational and professional levels. The second meeting prepared for the “Moving Stories Youth Exchange,” where group leaders from eight countries designed activities around storytelling and the Hero’s Journey. The aim is to create meaningful and transformative experiences for young participants in the upcoming exchange. Both meetings highlighted the power of collaboration, reflection, and shared values in driving inclusive change.

During the first two days of the JOIN seminar, the focus was on building trust and connections among participants through playful and creative methods. Each organization introduced itself and reflected on its individual and organizational methodologies, as well as on the target groups they serve. These professionals work with youth facing diverse challenges, including disabilities, geographical isolation, unemployment, limited education access, and migration backgrounds. A strong sense of community and belonging developed, alongside the exchange of tools and approaches for youth inclusion. On the third day, guest facilitators Elena and Joris introduced the practice of Playfight, which fosters emotional intelligence, non-violent communication, and conflict resolution. Participants engaged in this body-based method that values connection over competition, adaptable to a wide range of groups and contexts. YAEDA’s representatives, Nikola Mišić and Dušan Urošević, actively contributed to discussions and collaborative activities throughout the seminar. Later in the day, partner organization @uskrzydlamy led a street campaign in Ommen, raising awareness about mental health and well-being. This public action encouraged direct engagement with the local community, bringing visibility to youth-focused issues. The JOIN seminar continues to evolve as a space for reflection, innovation, and shared purpose among European youth workers.
