On Wednesday, May 21, a media literacy workshop was held at the Secondary Vocational School in Kučevo as part of the “Lie Detector” project. Together with Slobodan Jotić, a teacher of Serbian language and literature, the students renewed their basic knowledge of concepts related to media literacy and learned techniques that will enable them to recognize fake news. They learned all this through examples from social networks and portals. Also, from Marko Tadić, a social network expert, they learned more about the way social networks attract our attention, as well as the functioning of algorithms. The students applied everything they learned through a practical task in which they created the news themselves based on the photo. The workshop was also held for the teachers of this school, to whom Živojin Ivković, a history teacher, presented materials and tools that they can use when dealing with this topic in class. After the workshop, we spoke with students Aleksandra Mitrović, Anđelo Nikolić and Miljana Mišić, as well as professors Danijela Žikić and Milina Dinić.The “Lie Detector” project is jointly implemented by the Association for the Education of Youth and Adults Požarevac and Boom 93, as part of the “Youth and Democratic Development” project, which is implemented in partnership with the Belgrade Open School and with the support of Sweden.
